MIPS Seminar: Prenatal arsenic exposure, folic acid, and spina bifida: Results from a case-control study in Bangladesh

February 7th, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Chih-Fu Wei, Ph.D. Candidate, Population Health Sciences, Harvard Chan School

1. We conducted a case-control study to investigate interactions between arsenic, folate status and related genetics for spina bifida in Bangladesh. 2. Prenatal folic acid use is less protective against spina bifida under higher arsenic exposure. 3. There are positive gene-arsenic interactions between AS3MT and DNMT1 polymorphisms and prenatal arsenic exposure for spina bifida.
