The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Children’s Mental Health | Population Mental Health Forum Series

Public health responses to the COVID-19 pandemic have affected the daily lives of many of us, including children. The next Population Mental Health Forum will focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and resultant public health restrictions on children’s mental health. Dr. Karestan Koenen will be joined by Dr. Tamsin Ford from the University of Cambridge who will discuss recent research findings related to children’s mental health during this time. The event will conclude with a Q&A session with attendees.

Speakers: 

Dr. Tamsin Ford, Ph.D., is an internationally renowned Child Psychiatric Epidemiologist who researches the organization, delivery, and effectiveness of services and interventions for children and young people’s mental health. Tamsin’s work focuses on how to promote mental health, prevent mental ill-health, and respond effectively to children and young people who are currently struggling. Her work covers the full range of psychopathology and agencies, practitioners and interventions that relate to the mental health of children. Tamsin has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals and received numerous awards, including a CBE for services to Psychiatry (2019), Students Guild Best Post-Graduate Research Supervisor (2013), and the Margaret Davenport Prize (oral presentation, Royal College of Psychiatrists, 2001).

Dr. Karestan Koenen, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychiatric Epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology at HSPH and the host of the Population Mental Health Forum Series. She aims to reduce the population burden of mental disorders through research, training, and advocacy. She is passionate about using science to overcome violence and trauma, which are major preventable causes of health problems globally.
