Burden of Antibiotic Resistance in Neonates from Developing Societies (BARNARDS)

BARNARDS lab staff in Ethiopia

Neonatal infections account for approximately 23.4% of the world’s 3.1 million annual neonatal deaths. To better target antibiotic therapy and develop preventive interventions, we conducted a prospective birth cohort study of 5000 mother/newborns to identify etiologies of neonatal sepsis, antibiotic resistance patterns, and the association between maternal colonization and neonatal sepsis in Ethiopia.
