Well-Being Is a Skill

Dr. Richard J. Davidson is the William James and Vilas Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the Founder and Director of the Center for Healthy Minds. He is well known for his groundbreaking work studying emotion and the brain, and in 2006 was named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World.” He is a highly sought after expert and speaker, leading conversations on well-being on international stages such as the World Economic Forum, where he serves on the Global Council on Mental Health.

On October 25, 2018, Dr. Davidson’s seminar, “Well-Being Is a Skill,” highlighted the four components of well-being: awareness, connection, insight, and purpose. Dr. Davidson shared recent research findings, considering the science of emotions, contemplative practices and qualities of mind that affect well-being. The seminar was attended by students, postdocs, faculty, and staff. Following the seminar, a group of graduate students had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Davidson and have a more in-depth discussion about his research.
