Description: This scale was developed by examining agreed criteria for depression and anxiety (DSM and ICD classifications), and defining the opposite of each symptom. The scale includes 10 features reflecting hedonic and eudaimonic well-being (i.e., competence, emotional stability, engagement, meaning, etc.).

Example of statement/item: “Most days I feel a sense of accomplishment from what I do”

Response options: Most items are rated on a 5-point Likert Scale ranging from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree”. Positive emotion is rated on a scale from 0 “extremely unhappy” to 10 “extremely happy”, and emotional stability & vitality are rated on a 4-point scale from “none or almost none of the time” to “all or almost all of the time”.

Total score: Each item is scored using three different Likert scales, with experiences assessed over a range of different time periods, and some items are reverse coded. More information on scoring here.
