Welcome to the HSI Lab!

We Research.

We conduct collaborative research with researchers in 60+ countries to generate evidence for theory development and policy translation tools for enhanced health policy and practice, healthcare investment, and the adoption and diffusion of healthcare innovations.

We Teach.

With a focus on learning and translation, the lab draws on its research and policy engagement in comparative health systems to promote learning among students and healthcare leaders in health systems innovation.

We Innovate.

The lab uses its research and educational engagement and platforms to inform health policies, health system reform strategies, and targeted innovations to enhance the performance of health systems that deliver high-value healthcare.

The Health Systems Innovation Lab at Harvard University is a global research and training lab that specializes in creating high value health systems through targeted innovations. Led by Prof. Rifat Atun, the Lab uses its research, education, innovation and translation activities to work with students, governments, private sector, multilateral entities, and civil society to promote policy and practice, and accelerate the diffusion of health system innovations. The Lab conducts its work within two inter-related streams–Global Health Systems and Innovation—and is driven by a Harvard-based team of interdisciplinary clinicians and academic leaders, and an international group of disciplinary experts.
