John Lee

John Tayu Lee, MSc, PhD

Dr John Tayu Lee is a senior researcher in health economics and health system. He received a Master of Economics from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD from the Centre for Health Economics at the University of York. His research focuses on the use of econometrics and machine learning methodologies to health system and public health policy change in high-, middle-, and low-income countries. From 2015 to 2017, John was an Assistant Professor in Health Economics at the National University of Singapore’s School of Public Health. John worked as a Senior Lecturer in Health Economics and Policy at the University of Melbourne’s School of Population and Global Health from 2017 to 2022. John is also a senior fellow in health economics and policy at the Australian National University.
John’s research interests include economics of prevention, machine learning in healthcare, chronic disease, health systems, health policy assessment, economic evaluation, and universal health coverage. John has published over 80 papers in prestigious social science, public health and medical journals, including Lancet Global Health, Eclinical Medicine, Social Science and Medicine, Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, Health Affairs, Lancet, BMJ, CMAJ, Paediatrics, Annals of Family Medicine, Tobacco Control, BMJ Global Health, and Preventive Medicine. His work has appeared on BBC News, Reuters, the Times of India, China Daily, BBC Radio, and ABC Radio. John has taught many health systems and health economics courses at leading universities globally, and he has been research supervisor for over 40 PhD, MPH students. John was President of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research’s (ISPOR) Singapore Chapter from 2016 to 2017.
