Damages caused by children in common areas shall be the responsibility of the adult tenant of the building who is responsible for the child’s presence.

Please note that parents are legally responsible to provide adult supervision for their children in the parents’ absence. Massachusetts General Laws Regarding Children, 119 sec. 1, requires that children of the Commonwealth are “protected against the harmful effects resulting from the absence, inability, inadequacy or destructive behavior of parents or parent substitutes, and to assure good substitute parental care in the event of the absence, temporary or permanent inability or unfitness of parents to provide care and protection for their children.” The Harvard T.H. Typically, a wheelchair accessible unit is larger to allow proper turning radius for a wheelchair. Kitchen counters and sinks are open underneath, and the bathroom contains a tub with grab bars.

Please contact the Office for Student Affair for additional information. Learn more by visiting Disabilities Services.

Shared Two-Bedroom Apartments and Roommates

Two bedroom apartments may be leased by two unrelated students as a shared two-bedroom apartment. Students may request a roommate or request to be assigned a roommate. Students with co-occupants (spouses, domestic partners, or children) are not eligible to lease a shared two-bedroom apartment.

For roommate requests, both roommates must individually apply and mutually request each other. Roommate pairs that mutually request each other will be considered one application and will receive one place in the application lottery.

If no roommate is requested, roommates are assigned randomly. There is no type of lifestyle or preference-based roommate assignment, and roommates are expected to live cooperatively with their assigned roommate. Assignments are generally made between same-gender students. Any requests for individual consideration outside of these policies can be made through the Office for Student Affairs.

If offered a shared two-bedroom accommodation, each student will sign an individual lease. Students are individually responsible for rent payments, and collectively responsible for apartment condition, upkeep, and any damages.
