Who is eligible to live at Shattuck?

What utilities are included?


Monthly rent includes heat, hot water, electricity, gas stove, and high-speed wireless internet. Cable and telephone hook-ups are installed in each apartment, but these services are not included.

What exactly does “furnished” entail?


All apartments at Shattuck include a standard furniture package of bedroom and living area furniture typically:

  • XL Full bedframe and mattress
  • Under-bed storage drawers
  • Armoire
  • Desk and desk chair
  • Love seat or chair, depending on size of apartment
  • Coffee table
  • Kitchen table and chairs or breakfast bar stools

Apartments do not include bed linens, pillows, towels, pots and pans, dishes and utensils, microwaves, toaster ovens or toasters, dishwashers, air-conditioners, televisions or phones.

What size are the beds? Do I need to bring my own linens?


All beds are full XL size; the dimensions are 80″x54″.

Are roommates permitted?


Roommates are not permitted in one-bedroom apartments. One bedroom apartments are leased to individual students, and only spouses, domestic partners, and children can be approved as co-occupants. Please review co-occupant policies on the Applicant Policies page.

Two bedroom apartments may be leased by two unrelated students as a shared two-bedroom apartment. Please review shared two-bedroom apartment policies on the Applicant Policies page.

Can I request a specific roommate in a two-bedroom apartment?

Is there parking at the Shattuck House?


There is no off street parking at Shattuck International House. If your car is registered in Boston, you can obtain a Resident Parking permit from the City of Boston, which allows you to park on the streets surrounding Shattuck House. Please visit the City of Boston Resident Parking page for more information. Without a permit, there is some street parking in the area, but options are more limited. There are also a limited number of paid parking garages near Shattuck House.

Is storage available at Shattuck House?


Yes. Each bedroom will be assigned a 24 in x 30 in x 20 in space in a common storage room on the ground level of the building. All other items must be stored in your apartment. There is no storage space available prior to move-in. Please do not send any belongings to Shattuck House prior to your move-in date.

Is daycare offered at Shattuck House?


No, there is no daycare offered at Shattuck International House. For more information on family and daycare resources, please visit Childcare at Harvard.

Is Shattuck House air conditioned?


Shattuck House does not have a central air-conditioning system, and air-conditioners are not furnished items. Tenants can rent an air conditioner from an approved vendor or bring their own. Please review the air conditioner policy in the Shattuck House Guide for more information.

Are pets allowed?


No. Pets are not allowed at Shattuck House. Service and assistance animals are permitted when approved as a disability accommodation with the Office for Student Affairs. If you require a service or assistance animal, please contact studentaffairs@hsph.harvard.edu.

Do I need to pay a security deposit?


No. Shattuck House does not require a security deposit. Your first month rent is due at the signing of your lease.

How do I pay rent at Shattuck House?


Academic Year Students: your rent will be billed to your Student Account. For more information on Student Accounts, visit Student Financial Services.

Summer Only Students: summer lease agreements require the rent be paid in full when accepting and signing a lease. Acceptable forms of payment are certified check or wire trabsfer. We do not accept personal checks, credit card payments, or electronic transfers (ACH).

Can I ship packages to Shattuck House in advance?


Shattuck International House cannot accept packages prior to move in. Packages should not arrive prior to the start date listed on your lease.

Where can I buy the basic necessities for my apartment?


The nearest shopping plaza is at 401 Park Drive, which includes REI and Bed, Bath and Beyond. There is also a Target and Shaws grocery store nearby.

When do I have to move out?


Your lease end date is the date you must vacate your apartment. This date is not negotiable.

Is there a limit on the number of years I can live at Shattuck?


The maximum length of stay at Shattuck House is three years. We receive more applications to live in Shattuck than we can accommodate, and this ensures we are able to offer apartments for incoming students.

Does Shattuck House offer short-term accommodations?


No. Lease terms at Shattuck House are fixed, and start and end dates are not negotiable. Summer-only students studying for both Summer 1 and Summer 2 can select a seven-week summer-only lease. Visit the Application and Leasing Overview page for more information.

Can I request a tour of the Shattuck House?


We are not currently offering tours of Shattuck International House.
