Is there anything that I need to do differently as an instructor for course capture?
There are a few minor things that we ask of all instructors when using course capture:
- There is a podium wireless mic that should be used for excellent quality audio. A technician will show you how to use it at your first session
- The audience is not mic’d up with the exception of Kresge G1 (push to talk) and Kresge 200 (requires advance setup), so any questions posed in the class should be restated for the recording and online audience.
- Please notify us if any individual classes should not be recorded (e.g. exam dates). Course capture is automated and will record and post to Canvas on a schedule.
- Finally, please note that the recording is schedule and starts/end at designated times. Please use care when having informal conversations at the start or end of the course at the podium.
I would like to request that previous semester’s course capture be added to my Canvas site. How do I request it?
Please send an email to mets@hsph.harvard.edu noting which classes you want to include in your current course website.

How does course capture differ from Zoom which is also available in many rooms?
Course capture is a recording of your course that is pushed out to your students asynchronously via Canvas. Zoom is a web conferencing call that allows for live two-way conversation.
