Encrypting your laptop using our Whole Disk Encyption (WDE) service is the single most important step you can take to protect your data and the University’s data in the event the device is lost or stolen.
Key features and benefits
- Only those with password access to the system are authorized to access the data.
- Every computer using WDE automatically checks in with a logging and administrative server on a regular basis. In the event of loss or theft of a computer, IT can use the logs to determine if the loss or theft is a “reportable” event as defined by law, which can require notification of persons whose data may have been compromised.
- In the event you lose or forget your password, a recovery process is available.
- If needed, the whole disk can be unencrypted with assistance from IT support.
