MCAT Score Reporting

MHCM – MCAT Score Reporting Instructions

How to report scores depends on the date of the exam:

Method A:

Official MCAT scores from April 2003 to today are sent electronically officially from AAMC to SOPHAS. The two basic components are to self-report your scores to SOPHAS and to officially release your scores from the AAMC to SOPHAS. Paper copies are not accepted.

In your SOPHAS application, you must self-report your MCAT score in the “Standardized Tests” section, accessed via “Academic History” on your SOPHAS homepage, and include your AAMC ID#.

To officially release your scores from AAMC to SOPHAS use the AAMC website. Please visit https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-medical-school/taking-mcat-exam/mcat-scores/, Choose “Get Your Scores” at the right, login using your AAMC credentials (setup may be required), and follow the steps to electronically send your scores to SOPHAS. As a non-AMCAS institution the details on sending scores can be found here in the AAMC Help Questions (login required) – https://apps.aamc.org/score-reporting-web/#/help/examinee/topics.

Method B:

Reporting MCAT scores using this method is a two-part process defined as:

  1. Official MCAT Score verification, i.e. send an PDF of the MCAT Score Report (see sample here – MCAT Printable Score Report) to HSPH Admissions, see below.
  2. Self-report MCAT scores in SOPHAS; there are two ways to self-report, as outlined below.

1. Official MCAT Score verification

Note, when emailing the MCAT Score Report send it to admissions@hsph.harvard.edu and CC mhcm@hsph.harvard.edu. To access the MCAT Score Report follow these steps:

2. Self-report MCAT scores in SOPHAS. Choose from ONE of the following two options. Log in to your SOPHAS application, then either:

Self-report, Option A – upload a scan of the MCAT Score Report (see above): At the SOPHAS dashboard, select “Program Materials,” choose our program, then select the “Documents” tab, scroll to “Standardized Test Score Reports” and choose “Add Document” directly below. At the next screen you can upload the scan of your scores from your computer using “Choose File”. Once completed, you will be able to see the file listed in SOPHAS and may confirm it opens as needed.

Self-report, Option B – manually enter the scores: At the SOPHAS dashboard, select “Supporting Information,” followed by “Additional Experiences.” In the first box labeled “Other Information,” please manually enter the test date along with each category and score. Finally, at the bottom of the page choose “Save and Continue.”

Method C:

Reporting MCAT scores for test dates before 1991 is a two-part process, both are equally important, defined as:

  1. Official MCAT Score verification
  2. Self-report scores in SOPHAS; there are two ways to self-report, as outlined below.

1. Official MCAT Score verification

Official MCAT Scores from before 1991 are sent from the AAMC to Harvard Chan Admissions Office in hard copy. Currently, to request MCAT scores from exams taken in 1991 and earlier, please follow these steps (specified by the AAMC):

  • Email the MCAT Program Office at mcat@aamc.org, using “Search of Scores Pre-1991” in the subject line.
  • In the body of the email list your full name, date of birth, undergraduate college and year you graduated from that college and years you remember taking the MCAT. As needed specify your MCAT years as a range, this is helpful.
  • An AAMC MCAT Specialist will email to confirm for you based on your information what your scores are and let you know the price for these printed scores. The turnaround for these messages is 1-3 business days.
      • Price Breakdown:
        – 1 score copy $50 (You will get an official copy and an unofficial copy)
        – Additional years are $25
        – Additional recipients are $10
      • Specify the recipient for the score as:

Harvard Chan Admissions Office
158 Longwood Ave
Boston, MA 02115-5810

  • After choosing the number of scores per the above they will email a link to a digital invoice for online payment.
  • Once you receive your unofficial copy in the mail, you must enter the scores into SOPHAS using either of the methods described in #2 below.

Note, if you need assistance you may call the MCAT office directly at 202-828-0690.

2. Self-report MCAT scores in SOPHAS. Choose from ONE of the following two options. Log in to your SOPHAS application, then either:

Self-report, Option A – upload a scan of an MCAT Score Report using either the unofficial copy that was mailed to you (See 1. above) or if you already have a copy of your scores in your possesion. To upload them, at the SOPHAS dashboard, select “Program Materials,” choose our program, then select the “Documents” tab, scroll to “Standardized Test Score Reports” and choose “Add Document” directly below. At the next screen you can upload the scan of your scores from your computer using “Choose File”. Once completed, you will be able to see the file listed in SOPHAS and may confirm it opens as needed.

Self-report, Option B – manually enter the scores (once you have a copy of the scores): At the SOPHAS dashboard, select “Supporting Information,” followed by “Additional Experiences.” In the first box labeled “Other Information,” please manually enter the test date along with each category and score. Finally, at the bottom of the page choose “Save and Continue.”

*Note: For pre-1991 MCAT scores do not use the Standardized Tests section (under “Academic History”) of SOPHAS.
