Your interest in supporting the Department of Molecular Metabolism [MET] at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health could not be more timely. Our research focus is on metabolism: the vital and dynamic chemical reactions through which nutrients are interconverted to generate or store energy or produce the core components that make up our bodies. These reactions form the basis of life on this planet. Alterations in metabolism underlie the most common non-communicable diseases, which are the leading cause of death worldwide and represent a growing global health threat. Our department has assembled a team of best-in-class investigators to unravel the metabolic basis of human health and disease, biological research that is revealing solutions for the prevention and treatment of widespread human disorders, including heart and liver disease, cancer, neurodegeneration, and aging
Your support will enable us to fund the most highly innovative and transformative research. Although government research support is essential for our department, it does not enable the high-risk, high-impact research that is key to solving the major challenges to global public health. Our research on metabolic changes as a route cause of human diseases is blazing new trails toward conquering complex human disorders.
In the years ahead, your support can enable the most talented young minds to reach their potential at Harvard and become the next generation of leaders in disease-focused metabolism research. Our department presides over one of the few graduate training programs in the world focused on metabolism research and non-communicable diseases. Our program fosters the development of a diverse and advanced workforce trained to work collaboratively across disciplines to make major discoveries in public health.
By considering a gift to benefit the Department of Molecular Metabolism, you can become part of our mission to alleviate the burden of the most common human diseases worldwide, allowing people to live healthier, longer lives. On behalf of our community, we offer our heartfelt thanks.
Sincerely yours,
