Short Bio
Sandra graduated with a B.S. degree in Biology from the City College of New York and an M.S. degree in Environmental Health Sciences with a focus on Molecular Toxicology from New York University. Sandra was a post-doctoral research fellow in the department of Environmental Health in the Molecular and Integrative Physiological Sciences program after completing her doctoral degree. She joined Philip Demokritou’s laboratory in 2012 where she has received training to characterize engineered nanoparticles and evaluate their toxicity using both in vitro and in vivo models.
Research Interests
Sandra is interested in the investigation of respirable particles emitted from the use of laser printing equipment, their properties and implications on human health. For her thesis project, she is evaluating the physical and chemical characteristics of particles emitted from laser printers and their potential toxicity using physiologically relevant cell lines and animal models.
