Short Bio

Lila Bazina is currently a Master’s Student at Harvard University in the field of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology. Her interests are in engineered nanomaterials and their cellular toxicity. She joined Dr. Philip Demokritou’s group in October 2019 to carry out her thesis.  In Demokritou’s group she is studying the impact of ingested engineered nanomaterials and their toxicological effects.

She has completed her Undergraduate studies at the American University in Cairo in Biological Sciences with a Chemistry minor in 2015.  In her undergraduate thesis she fabricated Chitosan/PVA electrospun nanofibers and studied their biomedical applications. Then, she worked at QIAGEN as a Research Associate and was part of the Next Generation Sequencing team (Waltham, USA).

Research Interests

  • Ingested engineered nanomaterials and their toxicity
  • Fabrication and functionalization of engineered nanomaterials for biomedical applications
