‘New’ Obamacare defenders prepared for the challenge

Democrats set to defend the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) against repeal by Republicans under the Trump administration are quite different from the likes of the late Senator Edward Kennedy and others who supported it in 2009-2010. However, those who observers predict are likely to protect the ACA are not strangers to the “hardball politics” that surround health policy, according a December 20, 2016 talkingpointsmemo.com (TPM) article.

“It’s mostly the bench who are now out front,” John McDonough, professor of the practice of public health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and author of the 2011 book “Inside National Health Reform,” said in the article.

“It’s a very experienced and well-rounded bench in terms of understanding and familiarity with these issues in a very, very deep way, but it is a whole new generation that will be rising up and taking leadership roles in this,” he said.
