Coalition helps revive canceled climate change meeting

The Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) has partnered with a coalition including former Vice President Al Gore to revive a canceled meeting on climate change and health. The original conference had been co-sponsored by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Public Health Association (APHA), but was canceled shortly before the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

The meeting, originally planned for three days, has been condensed into one day and will take place on February 16, 2017 in Atlanta.

“The evidence is clear that climate change is a major threat facing the public’s health,” Ashish Jha, HGHI director and K.T. Li Professor of Health Policy at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, told NBC News in a January 27, 2017 article. “Openly discussing these scientific issues will help us prepare for this looming challenge and better protect the American people.”
