Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health Dean Michelle Williams spoke with NBA star Carmelo Anthony of the Portland Trail Blazers in a video posted May 26, 2020 on his YouTube channel. Anthony asked Williams about the definition of public health, the disproportionate effect that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on minority communities, and how to support the mental health and well-being of first responders.

Williams explained how public health connects the dots between structural problems such as poverty and racism and a range of poor health outcomes, including increased risk of complications and death from COVID-19.

Anthony expressed interest in helping support first responders and keeping his fans informed about what they can do to protect themselves from the virus and flatten the curve in their communities. He told Williams, “You have a partner, now.”
