HSPH-UNICEF child protection curriculum recognized

A new interdisciplinary program in child protection at Harvard School of Public Health was recognized at the UNICEF Children’s Champion Award Dinner in Boston on October 30, 2014. G. Barrie Landry, a board member of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, received the organization’s Helenka Pantaleoni Humanitarian Award for her role in helping launch the program. A $1 million grant from Landry and the Barrie Landry Charitable Foundation last year financed its initial development.

Jointly developed by UNICEF and HSPH’s François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights, the program offers five courses which can be taken as a sub-concentration by master’s students. It aims to grow a cadre of qualified child protection policymakers and field workers, and enhance the professionalization of the field. Two courses launched last spring, with all five courses starting this fall.
