The midterms will have a big impact on the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and on Medicaid expansion, say experts.
What happens will depend largely on which party wins control of the U.S. House and Senate, according to a November 2, 2018 Kaiser Health News article.
“If Democrats take the House … then any attempt at repeal-and-replace [of the ACA] will be kaput,” said John McDonough, professor of the practice of public health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, who helped write the ACA.
McDonough also said that he thinks the midterm results could influence the number of states that opt to expand Medicaid. “I’m wondering if we’re on the cusp of a Medicaid wave,” he said.
