To roll back environmental regulations, Trump administration takes aim at science

President Donald Trump is upholding his campaign promises to roll back environmental regulations and boost coal use, despite ample evidence showing the need to reduce fossil fuel use in order to mitigate the impact of climate change.

A November 12, 2018 Kaiser Health News article looked at several of the administration’s environmental policy proposals, including the Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science rule, which would limit the use of scientific studies in setting environmental regulations if researchers have not released all of their raw data, including medical records.

Scientists have been vocal in their criticism of the rule, including Francesca Dominici, professor of biostatistics at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, who said that by attacking the science that focuses on adverse health effects, the Trump administration wants to make it appear as if deregulation isn’t harmful to people’s health.
