About Us

Our mission is to make Harvard Chan an exceptional place to teach and learn by fostering an environment that supports personal, intellectual, and professional growth.

We support the School’s community and its teaching and learning environment in the following ways:

For Students

  • Partner with academic department to manage the school-wide MPH and DrPH degree programs, including summer programs for degree and non-degree students
  • Develop field and practicum opportunities by cultivating relationships with public health organizations around the world and advising students in their search for projects that match their interests and career goals
  • Direct the Public Health Leadership Lab, a year-long program in which students develop greater insight into themselves as leaders and learners
  • Offer a wide range of instruction and support for public health writing, including courses on policy, scientific, and grant writing, and a year-long dissertation writing seminar
  • Provide guidance on career development and job searches through individual counseling, job fairs and postings, career workshops, and employer programs
  • Oversee the Curriculum Center, which handles copyright permissions and course material for both on-campus and on-line courses
  • Assess and improve the educational experience of students through course evaluations,  interviews, graduate exit surveys, and other means

For Faculty, Post-doctoral Fellows, Research Associates, and Research Scientists

  • Support the development of new courses, working in partnership with the instructional design team
  • Foster opportunities for faculty and others to learn new pedagogy, including active learning techniques and case-based teaching, through workshops and individual coaching
  • Offer courses and workshops on grant writing and scientific writing, and provide a range of other forms of writing support
  • Provide feedback on student satisfaction with teaching and advising through analysis of course evaluations, focus groups, and graduate exit survey.

For Departments and Degree Programs

  • Oversee the process for review and approval of new courses, degree programs, fields of study, and concentrations through the Committee on Educational Policy
  • Provide information, analysis, and support to improve academic advising, courses, curricula, and degree programs

For Alumni

  • Strengthen alumni connections to the School and to one another through events, programs, volunteer opportunities, and online communities
  • Sponsor opportunities for alumni to support the professional development of current students through networking, mentoring, field placements, and other activities

For Practice Partners and Employers

  • Cultivate relationships for field experiences and practicums for our students, and employment opportunities for our graduates
  • Seek advice and guidance about the skills and knowledge our graduates need, in order to be competitive in the job market as well as successful public health professionals
