Judging Criteria for Harvard Chan PDA Travel Award

Evaluation of applications

  • Each application will be reviewed and scored by two independent reviewers (faculty members and research scientists at Harvard Chan School). Faculty members that are mentors in submitted applications cannot serve as reviewers. Reviewers will not review nominations for a candidate with whom they share common research projects.
  • Reviewers will be sent the applicant’s CV and personal statement, as well as a form on which to record their scores.
  • A score of 1-5 will be assigned to each of the two application components (CV and personal statement). Scoring rubric: 5 = excellent, 4 = good, 3 = average, 2 = fair, 1 = poor. Decimal points in evaluations should NOT be provided.
  • The personal statement will be evaluated based upon 2 criteria: professional development and research summary. Research summary will be evaluated based upon scientific merit, innovation and contribution to the field.

Selection of winners

The scores from each of the two application components will be averaged for each reviewer and then summed to yield a total score, representing 2 independent judges’ evaluations. Kocaeli University Medical School Dean and Faculty will then select any 3 of the top 5 selected applicants based on the scores by Harvard Chan judges, and may elect to invite additional participants from the applicant pool. Winners will be announced by March 31st, 2018.
