Eric Rimm, ScD

Dr. Eric Rimm (ScD) is professor of epidemiology and nutrition and director of the program in cardiovascular epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School.  As of July 2021, he also serves at the Director of the PhD program in Population Health Sciences covering the fields of study within Epidemiology, Nutrition, Environmental Health Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Global Health and Populations.


Jarvis Chen, ScD

Dr. Jarvis Chen (ScD) has been with PHS since the start of the program 2016.  He is a social epidemiologist whose research focuses on social inequalities in health, and especially racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in cancer outcomes. As a methodologist, Dr. Chen’s interests include the development of methods for geospatial and spatiotemporal analysis, disease mapping, handling missing data, and latent variable analysis.


Bruce Villineau

Bruce Villineau has been with the PHS PhD program since the arrival of our first cohort in 2016. As PHS Assistant Director, he oversees the overall administration of the program, including working directly with students, administrators, and faculty across all fields of study to ensure program operations and to maintain a strong working relationship across Harvard Chan and GSAS. Bruce addresses PHS student concerns, defenses and dissertations, overall PHS Admissions, and data tracking and management.


Paul Francis
PHS  Manager of Finance & Administration

Paul Francis manages the finances for the PhD program in Population Health Sciences (PHS) and draws on a wide array of experiences in the higher education, corporate, and nonprofit sectors. As a native of Massachusetts, Paul enjoys boating, fishing, and hiking in his spare time. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Providence College, a master’s degree in American History from Fordham University, and an MBA in finance and management information systems also from Fordham University. Paul can assist with any financial questions, including matters related to stipends and TF pay.


Matthew Boccuzzi
PHS Coordinator

Matthew Boccuzzi has been working with the PhD PHS program since July 2017, just before our second cohort began their PhD journey. As Senior Program Coordinator, Matthew acts key interface for the PHS office and primary liaison for students to access offices and departments within Harvard Chan and GSAS.


Claudette Agustin
Digital Media Design Communications / Alumni Coordinator

Claudette Agustin has a dual role for the PHS program in designing digital communication content and building the alumni program.  She manages the website, social media, internal communication site while producing and creating marketing materials in various digital formats.
