Barry Bloom is Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor and the Joan L. and Julius H. Jacobson Research Professor of Public Health, Emeritus, and former dean of the faculty at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is a recognized pioneer in the field of global health, and has served as a long-time advisor to the World Health Organization. Trained in immunology, Bloom has made important contributions in the areas of infectious diseases, vaccines, and global health policy, mainly focusing on the immunology and pathogenesis of leprosy and tuberculosis. His lifelong commitment has been to bring knowledge and methods of cutting-edge basic science to alleviate the burden of disease in developing countries.
