Bethany Kotlar

Bethany is a first-year doctoral student in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Her research focuses on child development and family wellbeing in the context of mass incarceration. She also holds the title of “mom” to one preschooler and two middle-aged cats.

Bethany is undertaking a qualitative project that seeks to understand how mothers who give birth during their incarceration find caregivers for their infants and how these caregivers negotiate co-parenting during the remainder of the mother’s prison sentence.
