Emily Murphy

Rose Service Learning Fellow

Emily is an MPH candidate in Nutrition. Prior to Harvard, Emily worked for a value-based healthcare system where she learned program design and evaluation, project implementation, and organizational management. She has served as a community volunteer in the food access space and has policy and advocacy experience through her work with a national anti-hunger campaign. Emily is interested in studying and addressing the health effects of food insecurity and poor nutrition. In the future, she hopes to work at the intersection of food systems, health care delivery, and community-based organizations to create upstream solutions that advance health equity.

Emily’s project, in partnership with Boston Community Pediatrics, focuses on monitoring and evaluating a culturally sensitive cooking class for children aged 5-13. This evaluation will identify opportunities to improve the program’s impact on its participants, support program equity, and demonstrate and communicate the program’s effectiveness.
