Melanie Etti is a medical doctor from the UK who is currently enrolled in the Master of Public Health (Global Health) degree program. Following completion of her general medical training, she undertook a clinical research fellowship in Kampala, Uganda where she worked on a project aimed towards measuring levels of protective immunity against Group B Streptococcus in mother-baby pairs. During this time, she also worked as coordinator for the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Working Group of the COVID-19 Clinical Research Coalition, an organization which aims to support high impact COVID-19 research in low- and middle-income countries. Her academic interests include infectious disease control in resource-limited settings, maternal health and medical ethics.
Melanie’s project is focused towards understanding the social determinants of congenital syphilis in Fortaleza, Brazil in order to improve access to syphilis diagnosis and treatment for pregnant women living in this region.
