Sherine Andreine Powerful, MPH (ID: Sherine, Mx., she, they), is a Doctor of Public Health candidate at Harvard Chan. As a Black Caribbean Feminist, she is committed to celebrating and furthering pleasure, healing, and liberation for Black, Brown, and Indigenous peoples and persons of diverse a/genders and a/sexualities. In this current critical juncture, her lived experiences are moving her towards the creation/curation of a life in which pleasure is greater than productivity. Her interests include feminist global health and development; gender and sexual health, equity, and justice; and anticolonial sustainable development in the context of climate change.

Sherine’s project focuses on the emancipatory cultural practice of Carnival in the Caribbean, namely its: 1) benefits of positive health and wellbeing for its participants; 2) contributions to experiences of pleasure, healing, and liberation; and 3) opportunities for increased sustainability, inclusivity, and accessibility for greater community-and-population level impact.
