Sophie Hathaway

Mississippi Delta Fellow

Sophie is a Master of Science student in the Department of Global Health and Population pursuing a concentration in women, gender, and health. Sophie’s research is focused on advancing health equity in rural communities using mixed methods to capture the heterogeneity of the U.S. rural experience. She is currently involved in projects at the Lancet, Harvard Law School’s Mississippi Delta Project, Lavender Lab at the University of Maryland, and the National Rural Health Association.

Sophie’s project will focus on evaluating the impact of the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi’s Feed Fund, a grant program established to assist food distributors in northwest Mississippi during COVID-19. These findings will contribute to a larger investigation of the current food distribution funding opportunities available in the Delta and barriers to participation that food pantries and food banks may have.
