Dr. Nancy Krieger, Professor of Social Epidemiology, was recently interviewed by The Harvard Crimson in “A Harvard Epidemiologist’s Reminder of Our Common Humanity”.
In the interview, Dr. Krieger speaks about her background as a social epidemiologist and about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. When asked about the notion of the pandemic as a “great equalizer”, she agrees that “it’s true that it is a great equalizer — all humans can get infected.” But, it also it also highlights our inequities as a society.
“The United States is an extensively well-resourced country, but there are enormous gaps in how those resources are distributed,” says Dr. Krieger. “Imagine the situation in countries which barely have a health system in comparison — what’s going to happen?”
