David R. Williams featured in The New York Times

Dr. David R. Williams, Florence Sprague Norman and Laura Smart Norman Professor of Public Health and chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, has been recently featured in The New York Times’s “‘A Terrible Place’: The Deadly Racial Disparities of Covid-19 in America”.

“It’s important to recognize and to acknowledge that the higher death rates of African-Americans from the coronavirus are not linked to the individual decisions black people have made or their communities have made,” says Dr. Williams in the article. “We are looking at societal policies, driven by institutional racism, that are producing the results that they were intended to produce.”
