Reconceptualizing IPV Inequities in LGBTQ Populations: Integrating Psychological and Socioeconomic Considerations | SBS Department Seminar

September 20, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm

SBS seminar featured Gabe Murchison on "Reconceptualizing IPV Inequities in LGBTQ Populations" on September 20, 2021 at 1pm. To RSVP: https://bit.ly/murchison-seminar

Stigma and discrimination shape LGBTQ people’s experiences of intimate partner violence (IPV), yet existing theories of LGBTQ health inequities are limited in accounting for IPV. This talk will review existing conceptual approaches to the role of anti-LGBTQ stigma in IPV and propose a new approach that addresses the socioeconomic impacts of stigma as well as its psychological effects. Intersections between anti-LGBTQ stigma and other systems of dominance and oppression, including racism, ableism, and sexism, will be highlighted.
