Kalé Kponee-Shovein is a 5th year Joint Doctor of Science degree candidate in the departments of Epidemiology and Environmental Health. Her primary research focuses on adverse neurological outcomes associated with heavy metal exposure. Within that work, she has applied causal inference methods necessary for the endowment of point estimates with causal interpretations. In addition, she has worked on research projects related to crude oil contamination and adverse health outcomes in Nigeria, endocrine disruptors and mental health and reproductive effects, and radiation exposure and health outcomes in older populations. She hopes that her doctoral education will provide her with the skills needed to effectively resolve research challenges as an individual investigator, while accomplishing career goals related to conducting impactful and collaborative health research at the population level.
