Tsinuel Girma

Professor Tsinuel is a pediatrician with more than 20 years of experience as clinician, researcher and medical educator. He has served in Jimma University at different academic and administrative capacities including being Medical Director of Jimma University Specialized Hospital. He has been advocating and actively engaged in the improvement of the clinical care for children with severe acute malnutrition in Ethiopia. He was the lead in establishing the Nutrition Rehabilitation Unit at JUSH, and subsequently led the process of starting an Out-Patient Treatment programs in Jimma Zone that was integrated with the routine primary health care services. He is also known for taking the initiative and his significant contribution in research capacity development for nutrition and health particularly in Jimma University.  He is the founder/ Principal Investigator of the Clinical and Nutrition Research Centre (JUCAN) in Jimma University ( https://www.ju.edu.et/jucan/).  JUCAN has become invaluable in evidence generation, PhD training and improving the research infrastructure. It has also fostered research culture and capacity, and both local and international research and capacity exchange collaborations.

Currently, Tsinuel is Director of Fenot, an Ethiopia-based project that provides technical support to the Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus. Additionally, he serves in several national or international technical working groups and scientific advisory teams. He holds a Visiting Scientist position at the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, a Visiting Professor of Paediatrics and Nutrition, Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, University of Copenhagen, Honorary Research Associate Department/School/Faculty at UBC School of Population & Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, Vancouver campus and Honorary Professor of Public Health at Addis Continental Institute of Public health, Ethiopia.
