Tsion Andine

Tsion worked as a Student Researcher at HaSET during the 2022-2023 academic year. During this time, she was an MD/MPH student pursuing her MPH at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Quantitative Methods. Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, she realized early on that lack of access to quality healthcare was the reality for many in her community. Growing up in this setting ignited in her the desire to pursue a career in medicine and public health. In the past, she had the opportunity to work at NIH focusing on HIV/AIDS vaccine development which catalyzed my passion for research. During medical school, Tsion worked with HIV Vaccine Trials Network on a project that assessed the advantages of point of care STI testing in a high-risk population of women in South Africa. Tsion was excited to join the team at HaSET to apply quantitative skills and conduct relevant research that will ultimately improve Maternal and Child Health in Ethiopia and other LMICs. She was also interested to learn more about how health systems research can lead to evidence based policies and programs.
