Many ambitious Nigerian children aspire to medical school, but while he had reached this goal, Emmanuel Akintoye wanted something more. He found it in public health. “I knew from the first moment that this is what I want to do,” says the young physician. “I want to help heal the nation.” Among the challenges he plans to help address on returning home: The world’s highest burden of malaria and skyrocketing rates of hypertension and other chronic diseases.
“Thank God for Harvard. Thank God for financial aid. This is a dream come true for me.”
