Reine-Marcelle Ibala

Medical student

Reine-Marcelle Ibala is a rising 4th year medical student at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC), currently in the MPH-45 global health program at Harvard TH Chan. Originally from Congo (Brazzaville), Reine immigrated to the US with her family through political asylum. This inspired her work with the Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights, helping physicians help victims of violence and torture apply for asylum. Reine has also worked under Dr. Lindsay Stark conducting gender-based violence research on the mental health and resilience of young women and girls in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Syrian refugee camps in Jordan. This allowed her to contribute to the creation of Physician for Human Right’s sexual and gender-based violence training module. Reine aims to build a career advancing global health policies that recognize the rights of migrants and refugees.
