Event Background and Opportunities
The Advancing Women in Public Health & Medicine Symposium, sponsored by the Teikyo-Harvard Program, will occur on September 15, 2017, at the Joseph B. Martin Conference Center, in the Harvard Longwood Area, of Boston, MA.

The Symposium will address how individuals and institutions can augment existing, and create new, avenues for women in the fields of public health and medicine to develop new skills and exercise leadership. Our current agenda features a diverse roster of speakers, including Dr. Erica Warner, Assistant Professor at the Harvard Medical School, who will discuss her network analysis of promotion in academia. Dr. Yusuke Tsugawa, of University of California, Los Angeles, will share results of research concerning differences in patient outcomes among female versus male physicians.

We also will hear from Dr. Meredith Rosenthal, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Health Economics and Policy, of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, who will address the importance of enhancing diversity among public health practitioners in the U.S. Drs. Marko Inoue and Keiko Nomura, Associate Professors at Teikyo University Graduate School of Public Health, will discuss the unique challenges facing women in the public health arena of Japan.

Participants will have opportunities to ask speakers questions and network with one another. In addition, a continental breakfast and a boxed lunch will be served!
