Alongside this, there are emerging ethnic inequalities in the impact of government promoted public health policies to manage the pandemic. In this talk Dr. Nazroo will trace the origins of these inequalities in the UK context, moving beyond reductionist explanation to focus on the central role of structural, institutional and interpersonal racism in shaping these inequalities. He will then go on to examine the challenges such an analysis presents for public health, both in relation to short-term responses to the coronavirus pandemic and longer-term policies to address ethnic/race inequalities in health. This webinar is open to the Harvard community and is part of a monthly series called “Racism and Health — Understanding & Addressing Its Multiple Mechanisms”, sponsored by the Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences.
