– Q & A –

What is your background/experience prior to entering the program?

I obtained my master’s degree in Environmental Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Prior to starting the PHS program, I worked in pediatric environmental health at the Region 2 Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (Mt Sinai, NYC).

Why/how did you become interested in Environmental Health Exposure?

My interest in environmental health exposure began when I was in high school, learning about the Flint water crisis. I was horrified to learn that communities (particularly ones that were similar to mine) could be exposed to harmful environmental substances due to structural policies, systems, and beliefs that promote inequity. Throughout my career, my resolve has been to work with communities to assess and address disparate exposures within the built environment.

What is your current involvement in Occupational Health?

I have started the exposure assessment sequence of courses and am brainstorming projects related to EH Exposures.

What are your future career plans/goals?

Public health practice (community health, pediatric health).
