Joe Sciacca

Joe Sciacca is currently the Enterprise Editor at Channel 7 News. Formerly, Joe was the  Editor in Chief of the Boston Herald, and he has nearly four decades of daily newspaper experience as a reporter, political columnist, and editor. He was the 2016 recipient of the Fitzwater Medallion for Leadership in Public Communication awarded by Franklin Pierce University, which honored him as a “disruptor” in the media industry. Under his leadership, the Herald has been named one of “10 Newspapers That Do It Right” by Editor and Publisher, and Innovator of the Year by the Associated Press Media Editors for multimedia integration, including its pioneering internet platform Boston Herald Radio. Talkers magazine named Sciacca to its “Frontier 50” list for radio innovation. 

The Herald’s journalism has been twice honored with first-place national medals by the Society of Professional Journalists and has been recognized for innovation by the prestigious National Headliner Awards.  For most of his career, Sciacca covered politics, from Boston City Hall to the Massachusetts State House as well as several presidential campaigns. He has served as political editor and leader of numerous investigative reporting projects.

Sciacca has been a frequent commentator on politics and media on television and radio. In his reporting assignments, Sciacca traveled to West Africa on a humanitarian mission with Ethel Kennedy and the former Soviet Union with former Mayor Ray Flynn and witnessed and covered the space shuttle Challenger disaster from the ground at the Kennedy Space Center. He has been honored by Boston magazine as the best political columnist and first on the magazine’s list of “dream team” journalists.

Sciacca joined the Herald in 1983 and was named editor in 2010. He started his career as a correspondent for The Sun of Lowell and staff reporter at The Eagle-Tribune of Lawrence, Massachusetts. He served as a trustee of Austin Preparatory School and sits on the president’s advisory council and communication advisory board at Curry College. He is an annual guest lecturer in crisis communication and MIT’s professional education summer program.
