National Responses to the Coronavirus in East Asia and Italy (Takemi Seminar)

The US-Japan Program of Harvard University together with the Takemi Program in International Health of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health hosted a Zoom panel on “National Responses to the Coronavirus in East Asia and Italy” on April 14. The panel was moderated by Professor Michael R. Reich and discussed national responses in Japan, South Korea, China and Hong Kong, and Italy to COVID-19, with brief presentations by current Takemi Fellows, Dr. Shuko Takahashi and Dr. Caroline Benski, former Takemi Fellow, Dr. Juhwan Oh, and Harvard Chan Faculty Member, Dr. Winnie Yip. These countries have been on the frontlines of the global pandemic since early January 2020 and provide unique insights into the various ways that national governments have tackled the spread of the virus. The panel synthesized information coming from these different national contexts to identify lessons for national responses.
