Professor Winnie Yip Joined the Fourth Meeting of the Tsinghua-Lancet Commission on Health and Poverty Alleviation in China

On October 23-24, 2023, Professor Winnie Yip joined the fourth meeting of the Tsinghua-Lancet Commission on Health and Poverty Alleviation in China in Beijing. The Commission’s goal is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of China’s progress, challenges, and achievements in its health-related poverty alleviation efforts.

The theme of the session was “健康扶贫的可持续发展战略 [Sustainable Development Strategy for Healthy Poverty Alleviation].” Representatives from a wide variety of governmental agencies, health research institutions, and universities were in attendance, including the National Health Commission (NHC), China Population and Development Research Center (CPDRC), Harvard University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Hong Kong, and more. 

Margaret Chan [陈冯富珍], who is the co-chair of the Commission and the Founding Dean of the Tsinghua Vanke School of Public Health, chaired this fourth meeting. The commissioners convened to discuss the research framework, contents, and preliminary draft of their report in-progress. They put forth suggestions for further improvement of the expected report, and determined the Commissions’ next steps moving forward.
