Emily Troutman is an independent journalist covering humanitarian crises and response. In 2009, she was named Citizen Ambassador to the United Nations. From 2010 to 2012, she was based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti where she reported on the earthquake recovery for numerous media outlets. Following the earthquake in Nepal in 2015, Emily wrote extensively about the myriad issues surrounding the post-disaster humanitarian response including how less than 1% of funds collected went to local aid groups. Emily’s writing and photography has been published by The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, Slate.com, Agence France-Presse, the UN Chronicle, Monocle Magazine, The Guardian and many others. Emily is the founder of Aid.Works. She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute.
