Elyse is a family demographer, trained in sociology, whose research focuses on understanding the causes and consequences of family events across the life course and around the globe. Much of her time has been spent on understanding marriage, childbearing, and marital dissolution in South Asia. She currently works on the Health and Aging in Africa: A Longitudinal Study of an INDEPTH Community in South Africa (HAALSI) project as a Research Scientist at the Center for Population and Development Studies. In addition to overseeing aspects of the survey design and data management, her research on HAALSI largely focuses on how marriage, widowhood, and divorce can impact one’s receipt of social support, as well as their health outcomes.
