The Mma Bana Study

The Mma Bana Study is a treatment trial to determine the optimal HAART regimen to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission (MTCT) among 700 HIV-infected breastfeeding women in Botswana. Women with lower CD4 counts will receive Nevirapine/Combivir, and those with higher CD4 counts will be randomized to receive either Kaletra/Combivir or Trizivir (Abacavir, Zidovudine, and Lamivudine). Virologic outcomes will be compared by randomization arm, and rates of antepartum, intrapartum, and breastfeeding MTCT will be determined among all infants.
