Poll: Obamacare repeal unpopular—but other issues may sway 2018 voters

The nation’s contentious health care debate currently looms large in voters’ minds, and most don’t support the GOP plan for repealing the Affordable Care Act. But other issues—such as President Trump’s efforts to protect the country from terrorism and his proposed budget—will also be important when voters consider which congressional candidates to vote for in 2018, according to a new poll from POLITICO and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Other issues of concern among voters are allegations about the White House’s involvement with the Russian government, Trump’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants, and his ban on travel from some Middle Eastern countries, according to the poll.

“The race, if it was held tomorrow, health care will be one of the big issues, but other issues could decide this race on both sides,” said Robert Blendon, Richard L. Menschel Professor of Public Health and Professor of Health Policy and Political Analysis, in a July 14, 2017 POLITICO article. Blendon designed the poll with POLITICO.
