How Medicare for All would impact the health system

If Congress passed a Medicare for All program, nearly every part of the U.S. health care system would be affected, from drug makers to hospitals, according to reports.

But the most significant impact would be felt by insurance companies, said John McDonough, professor of the practice of public health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

“Their business would be dramatically de-escalated,” he said in an April 11, 2019 MarketWatch article. McDonough added there could still be a role for private insurance as a supplement to primary government-funded health coverage.
