DRG implementation has some work to do (DRG应用这些功课要做好)

Professor Winnie Yip published an article on Health News (健康报) about DRG reform in China. This article is to comment on the new policy issued by the State Council (on June 28) to deepen the payment reform for basic health services (《国务院办公厅关于进一步深化基本医疗保险支付方式改革的指导意见》).

Professor Winnie Yip, Director of the China Health Partnership at HSPH, and Professor William Hsiao visited Peking University. Professor Ling Li from the China Center for Health Development at Peking University hosted a discussion titled “Health care reform in China: global perspective and local practice”, featuring the two professors.

Professors William Hsiao and Winnie Yip visited went to Sanming city in Fujian province, a pioneer in leading the health care reform in China. While in Sanming, two professors visited county hospitals, township hospitals, and health clinics and discussed the impact of “Sanming Model” (三明模式) with local government officials.

Vice Minister Li Cui of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) attended a Global Health Roundtable co-organized by the Harvard School of Public Health, China Medical Board, and Massachusetts General Hospital, exchanging ideas on global health professionals’ training.

Professor Yip gave a presentation to China Health Policy and Management Society (CHPAMS). She discussed the key components of payment system reform in China and shared her opinions that the direction of the next phase of reform should focus more on the quality of health care delivery. During her presentation, she also proposed a population-based approach to achieve the dual goal of cost control and quality improvement.

Professor William Hsiao discussed his observations of China’s health care reform on People’s Daily’s Health section. He pointed out the systematic level change to the governance structure is crucial for advancing the current health care reform.

Professor Winnie Yip published an opinion piece on cn-healthcare.com (健康届), where she discussed the importance of supply-side reform. She provided three recommendations for the future direction of China’s health care reform.

Ningxia province’s reform model has been supported by a collaborative effort from the Harvard School of Public Health, Fudan University, Beijing University and Ningxia Medical University.
